We Are Going To Be A Host Family For A Japanese Exchange Student!

July 02, 2005 - 3:36 p.m.

Dear Diary,
Lately, it has been fairly easy for you to detect the facts and truth behind the situations you encounter. However, beginning today, your analytical abilities will not prove so reliable. The ups and downs of your relationships puzzle you particularly, and no amount of analysis yields a solution. A certain lack of commitment from other people will arouse your doubts, and you begin to wonder if you are truly appreciated and understood...
These past twenty seven days have been absolutely a pure and total rollarcoaster, but I guess, a good one at that. To start with, Shauna finally made it back home to good town Stratford from out West in Calgary. She's home for good now. I've only been able to talk with her once but we are planning to get together this week and go out for coffee to reconnect and tell our interesting stories of the last very long while together. It'll be great. I'm looking forward to seeing her. Work is the same as usual. I'm still in the Press department. My supervisor approached another student, Kyle and myself two weeks ago and requested that we meet him in his office to talk. We went in and informed us that they were taking apart this huge machine called a Denison and in doing so they would need to have a full midnight shift running to keep our production up in full for orders. With that, he needed either one of us to work midnights for two weekes straight or we could divide it upon ourselves one week for myself and one for Kyle. And that is what we had agreed on. Kyle decided that he was going to take the first week (this past week) and ended up volunteering for it so I volunteered for the second week with the intentions that dad would need to leave work early each night to come home and pick me up and take me into work for 11:00pm and then need to pick me up in the morning at 7:00am. Everything was fine until I realized later on that the first week was the one I had wanted since I would only have to do the four days (instead of five) because of the long weekend for Canada Day. Then I also found out that dad was going to be on holidays and going away the week I was working up to South Hampton so I would need to find my own way back and forth to work. The next day I talked to another lady that works at the factory on the day shift in the Fuel department (she is trained in Press) and asked her if she knew of anyone that could drive me in. She thought about it and told me that she would take midnights for me and would cancel her two day holidays for me so that I could take her place in Fuel doing something light like packaging. So I talked to Jim about it and he informed me that this was not a problem and Tiny could work midnights for this week. I managed to get out of it. *grins* I have to admit that this was absolutely wonderful for me as I don't think there would have been any way for me to work a full week of midnights as I'm so used to going to be shortly after 9:00pm to get up for 6:00am. Things managed to work out for me though in my favour and that is the only thing that matters.
Last weekend I had phoned home to talk with dad for the time that he was planning on picking me up from Greg's or if I would need to take the bus home and he told me about something new that him and my mom were going to try. We are going to be a host family for a Japanese exchange student. This means that on July 23rd (Saturday) a 15 year old Japanese student by the name of Michiru will be joining our family for three weeks to take ESL Engligh lessons at the high school and we will be in charge of her while she is here. I'm definately looking forward to it as I've never had another female who will be living with us as a sister to me stay with us before. It should be really cool if you ask me. So, we only have another twenty one day wait until she arrives from Japan.
As for Alicia, I talked to her last week and she informed me that her stomache is huge and she can no longer bend over to shave her legs which gave me quite the laugh as she is so tiny and the picture of her trying to bend over to do something so common and ritualistic is cute. Her due date is still sitting as the 29th of July but doctors are also informing her that they are not sure if a *real* due date is between then and August 5th. The fact of the matter is though that it won't be too much longer until Gavin arrives and she will be a mommy. We talked and decided that right now would not be a suitable time for me to come down to visit as with a new baby in the house come new routines and lifestyle changes and Rob and Tammy aren't prepared to have all of that, plus another extra person staying there. Alicia and I decided that we would delay things a little bit and hopefully around Christmas time I could come down to visit for a couple of weeks with her and the baby but if anything changed in the meantime, perhaps I could fly out then as long as it doesn't conflict with school. She's doing very well though knows that she has my support even if I'm not there to be with her through everything. Not much longer now!
Greg and I are the same as usual. Greg gave Trevor his two week notice at A+ and Thursday was his last day so he was more then thrilled to be done there. Thursday we celebrated Roberta's 49th birthday with cake and presents...they had dinner and I made the decision not to eat as I didn't like what was made. All in all it was a good, hot night in the apartment. Yesterday morning we got up and got ready and waited for my parents to pick Greg and I up to come back to Stratford for the night together for Canada Day. Greg and I spent the day in the pool which I regret in some ways now as I'm burnt. It was my own fault for not putting a t-shirt or sun screen on though. We also later on went to the Canada Day parade which was held up town and got chips to nibble on and then went to see fireworks which were held out at the two high schools near the country. Things we wonderful. We came home and ended up watching part of a movie before heading to bed. This morning we were up and out of the house by 10:00am and to Cambridge to WalMart and then to Sams Club to pick a few things up. We stopped to have lunch at Burger King and then made it back to Greg's appartment. It's been a nice weekend in all. I guess I've just spilled to you what has taken place in the last three weeks and now I have nothing else to say or report. I hope everyone is taking care and relaxing. I will write soon.
*love always stacy*
